Guayule
|
Guayule is a woody shrub native to the Chihuahuan Desert of southwest Texas and northern Mexico. At least 16 species have been identified. P. argentatum is the only one currently being commercialized. During the past century, and particularly during World War II, guayule intermittently served as a commercial source of rubber. The bark of guayule is a source of natural rubber (latex) that can be used to make high performance tires and other rubber products, and could potentially substitute for imported natural rubber as well as for petroleum derived rubber.
