Idle cropland

A land cover/use category for cropland that is in rotation for soil improvement, and cropland on which no crops were planted for various physical and economic reasons. Under Federal farm programs, acreage diverted from crops to soil-conserving uses is included in this component provided it was not eligible as cropland pasture and was not used for that purpose. Cropland enrolled in the Federal Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) is included in idle cropland.
